Perfect for keeping tiny toes toasty warm when snuggled up in the pram by the fire, or while embarking on a crawling expedition, these sweet little slippers come in three different sizes and are a great project for confident beginners. Featuring the classic Christmassy shades of warm red and snowy white, these little bootees are trimmed with a fluffy edge, adding a gloriously festive finishing touch.

Top knit tip

For your finished project to look as good as possible, it’s always best to block it. However, baby bootees are of course very small, which can make blocking a little more fiddly. First, soak your finished bootees in lukewarm water and then gently squeeze out the excess. Insert your fingers inside the bootee and press flat all the seams. Draw an oval that is approximately the size and shape of the inside of the bootee onto a piece of card and cut it out. You could trace around the soles to help you do this, or find a template online. Slip the template into the shoe and position at the base before stuffing it with paper towel until fairly compact. Mold the shape of the shoe to remove lumps and bumps, making sure the base is flat and the toe area rounded. Then leave it somewhere warm to dry before removing the stuffing.
