What you need to know

This garter stitch dog and blanket set by Helen Ardley would make a fabulous charity make.

Our knitted miniature dachshund, Dudley, could be a treasured companion for a new baby or an adorable toy for a tot; this little fella and his matching rainbow blanket are striped, so you could easily use any DK weight yarn and, for knitters on a strict budget, vary the width of the lines to use up any oddments of yarn. This set also makes a thoughtful charity make, whether you're looking to make money or gift to those in need.

Top knit tip

It's vital that you think about the safety of your knitted item. Ensuring that seams are tightly finished goes a long was to making sure that this project lasts a long time. This is particularly important when sewing on the small details like the ears which could easily be pulled of by a determined tot. If the gift is for a young baby, embroider eyes instead of using buttons.
