Bust your yarn stash with Susie Johns' colourful picnic accessories including bottle cover, glasses covers, and two-in-one placemat and cutlery roll
Susie Johns' colourful makes are perfect for a traditional British picnic in the park. The unique striped pattern of the wine bottle cover is achieved by knitting two-row stripes and flipping the work on to its wrong side before making up - a simple but effective technique. The ribbed sleeves, meanwhile, make excellent cosies for cans and drinking cups, with the soft knitted fabric acting as a buffer to stop cans knocking together en-route. The body of the placemat is knitted
entirely in garter stitch. The pretty stripy effect is created by changing colour every two rows, then using the wrong side of the work as the top. Susie has used bias binding to achieve a neat and professional finish. Once made, these mats roll up easily to fit inside a packed picnic hamper.
