What you need to know
Cygnet’s glittery fairytale cushion cover will teach you how to colourwork.
Turn your child’s bedroom into a magical fairytale land with this fun and sparkly cushion cover. The castle motif is worked using a combination of stranding and block colourwork – download the pattern to learn the difference between the techniques. Only one ball of each colour is needed, so why not make another in a variety of different colourways?

Top knit tip
Most sections of the chart use the intarsia method, where you use a smaller bobbin of yarn for each colour section on the row. Give the two strands a twist when changing colour to avoid a hole. Where the colour changes after just a few stitches, you can carry the yarn across the back of the work, but keep the tension even. If it’s too loose it’ll look untidy, but pull it too tight and you’ll get puckers in the fabric.
