What you need to know

Learn two easy colourwork techniques with Nicola Valiji’s knitted cushion cover.

Slip stitch patterns are so much simpler than they look. You’re effectively working in basic stripes but are reintroducing previous shades by slipping stitches along the row. If you’ve not tried it before, you’ll be able to practise the method when knitting your tension square. This colourway has been inspired by Orla Kiely homewares, but you can choose something that best suits your décor.

What do I need?

Yarn: Deramores Studio DK, shades Pearl, Mustard, Burnt Orange, Peridot, Storm Cloud, Gingerbread, one 100g ball of each
Needles: 4mm
Cushion pad: 32cm x 32cm
Buttons: 1.5cm, five
Tapestry needle

Sizing

32cm x 32cm

Top knit tips

When slipping stitches in honeycomb patterns, you’ll need to pay attention to whether the yarn is at the front or back of the work. We refer to the front and back as you look at your knitting, so on knit rows the yarn should be behind the stitches and on purl rows it should be carried in front of your stitches.

Place pins where the buttonholes are to get the placement of the buttons correct.
