What you need to know

This beginner-friendly knitting pattern teaches you how to knit a handy pencil case.

Knitted in a beautifully soft, pure cotton yarn, these cool school accessories will make a perfect gift for an eager student. The intricate stitches used in both designs look complex but they are created using four row stripe sequences and straight forward stitches. You can play around with school house colours or your favourite shades to create something really unique.

What do I need?


Yarn: Debbie Bliss Cotton DK, shade 71 Burnt Orange, shade 75 English Mustard, shade 20 Avocado, shade 61 Aqua, shade 02 Ecru, one 50g ball of each
Needles: 3.25mm, 4mm
Fabric: 25cm x 25cm, two pieces
Zips: 20cm, two

Sizing


20cm x 10cm

Top knit tips


If you’re not confident sewing the zip and lining in when it comes to making up your pencil cases, try using fabric glue instead. Just remember to be careful not to get any on the outside of your new accessory.

If you don’t have a student in mind to make these for, they would be great as make up bags or to help organise your handbag!
