What you need to know

Featuring a cat and mouse, this character kids' scarf by Val Pierce is a must-knit project for advanced beginners.

With his whiskered face greeting you at one end and a long tail at the other, this child’s scarf knitting pattern is sure to be a winner! Not only will it keep the cold out in wintry weather, but it will keep boredom at bay too, with the tactile, 3D paws, tail and muzzle of this feline friend, plus a free-roaming little mouse eager to scurry around the scarf all day long. With handy pockets at either end of the accessory, this bonus mouse toy can be kept safe and sound in the pocket along with any other bits and bobs like mittens.

Top knit tips

You can easily adjust the length of this scarf by repeating Row 2 for as many times as you like – just be sure to buy sufficient yarn!

When working the pocket edgings, knit in a firm garter stitch and cast off firmly too for a sharper finish.
