What you need to know

Start this nursery cushion and toy tonight with Amanda Berry's set of knitting patterns.

A great option for beginners, let's knit Amanda Berry’s nursery cat cushion and cuddly fish toy. Her feline cushion is perfect for practising colourwork techniques, combining intarsia and stripes to create a charming, cuddly accessory – ideal for mums to snuggle with during late-night feeds. The fish also makes a delightful mini gripping toy for tiny hands. This two-in-one project is fun, practical, and the perfect introduction to toy-making with its creative, colourful details.

What you need

Yarn, DK: pastel pink, dark pink, white, green, yellow, white, blue, 50g of each.
Needles: 4.5mm
Stuffing
Grey felt
Grey wool
Tapestry needle

Knit tip

To embroider the cat’s eyes, secure a 30cm length of grey yarn on the wrong side, then use a tapestry needle to bring it up through the front where the eye starts and back to the wrong side where it finishes, creating one big stitch on the right side for the eye. Using grey embroidery or cotton thread and a sewing needle, sew this big stitch in place with a couching stitch.
