What you need to know

Download an knit Julie Ferguson’s bed socks and hot water bottle cover set this winter.

Winter is on its way, so there has never been a better time to cosy up with a luxurious pair of snuggly socks and super-soft hot water bottle; of course, these seasonal accessories would make the perfect gifts for someone you love, but they could also help you to enjoy a well-deserved evening of self-care, and even novice knitters will be able to work their way through the simple hot water bottle pattern; however, experience will be required when tackling the socks, as you will need to knit them in the round and make good use of your shaping skills.

Top knit tip

It may seem daunting to be using four or five needles to knit these socks, but you are actually only holding two at a time; make sure your stitches sit in the middle of each needle when not in use to avoid them sliding off, and to prevent ladders forming in your work, give the yarn an extra tug when knitting the first stitch on each needle; alternatively, you can knit these socks on a long circular needle using the magic loop method, and you can find lots of how-to tutorials on the internet.
