What you need to know

Decorate a baby's nursery with Nicola Valiji's knitted bird decor.

Nicola Valiji’s gorgeous wall hanging is just what you need to brighten up a baby's nursery. Knitted in an array of pastel shades and featuring three cute long-legged birds, this hanging decoration also features a twisted vine of knitted flowers to wrap around the wooden dowel. You can also put your embroidery skills to the test by stitching matching flowers onto the front of each bird.

What do I need?


Yarn: Deramores Studio DK, shades Sky, Lavender, Rose, Lime, Citrine, Pearl, one 100g ball of each, oddment of black yarn
Needles: 3.5mm
Tapestry needle
Safety toy stuffing
Dowel: wooden, 12mm by 30cm
Ribbon: 2m, pink gingham, 1cm wide
Glue
Sewing thread

Sizing


Bird height (approx): 8cm

Top knit tips


You will need to use your embroidery skills to create the flowers featured in this pattern. The trick is to use a tapestry needle, as the blunt tip will prevent your yarn from catching. You should also avoid pulling your stitches too tight, as this could interfere with the shaping of your knit.

Make sure you hang the birds at different levels and pin the ribbon on first to get the length correct.
