Why We Knitters Can’t Wait For Spring

Why We Knitters Can’t Wait For Spring

New knitting opportunities await!

While winter offers us knitters long nights of crafting on the sofa snuggled with a box of chocs and an extraordinarily good pair of socks, its seasonal successor is just as praiseworthy. In fact, we might even be so bold as to call it one of the four most inspirational quarters in the live-long year! Here’s why…

Pretty Flowers

Following in the footsteps of the first shoots of the new season, beautiful blooms are popping up all over the place and we’re certainly inspired!

Daffodils dancing in the wind always make us smile but they’re often short-lived. Knit some daffs that will last a lifetime with this easy pattern from Nicola Valiji. We love the twist of the textured yarn. Join Let’s Knit Together* to access this and over 2,200 more great patterns. Find more details at letsknit.co.uk/together

We’re looking forward to those darling buds of May (and April and March), but until then we’ll just enjoy the stunning colourwork of Kaffe Fassett. This Chinese Rose Coat pattern is an investment that will bring you joy for years to come. It costs £4 to download or buy the full pattern collection for £9.50 from knitrowan.com

New life

It’s baby season in the animal kingdom and there are so many ridiculously cute creatures for us to coo over. While most of us aren’t likely to get hands-on with the real-life sweeties – and it’s best to leave them be anyway – knitted versions can be squeezed and cuddled for hours on end.

Sheep are (probably) a knitter’s spirit animal and there are so many textured stitch patterns that can perfectly replicate the supersoft fleece of a little lamb. This Sheep Toy by Tatyana Korobkova is simply adorable. Buy the pattern at ravelry.com

©Dot Pebbles Knits
Dot Pebbles is a master at making wonderfully realistic knitted animals, just take a look at this baby bunny pattern! This cutie is quick to knit and will snuggle into the palm of your hand. Find the pattern at etsy.com

Every year charity Francis House Children’s Hospice runs its Easter chick appeal and you can get involved! Simply knit or crochet a chick (or several) and send them in to be sold to raise money to help support families in need. Learn more about the campaign and find patterns at francishouse.org.uk

Warm weather

Those icy chills have passed and the sun has got its hat on! It’s time to switch out those chunkier fibres in favour of lighter-to-wear yarns, shorten those sleeves, and layer up for the spring season.

Cables are a year-round fave and this sweater from Stylecraft is an ideal choice to ease your way into the balmy days ahead. Pattern leaflet 9851 also includes a long-sleeved v-neck version. Perfect! For stockists and more details, visit stylecraft-yarns.com

We love the vintage feel of this light and lacy T-shirt from DROPS. Find the pattern at garnstudio.com

April showers

Drip, drip, drop! A little rain will keep everything lush and green and we might even see a rainbow. If not, knit one instead…
