Get your needles at the ready! Christmas Jumper Day is back on Thursday 10 December 2026, giving knitters everywhere the perfect excuse to get festive, have some fun with their woollies and raise money for a brilliant cause.

It’s never too early to start thinking about Christmas knitting! This year, Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day takes place on Thursday 10 December 2026, bringing together schools, workplaces, families and friends for a day of festive fun and fundraising.
Whether your Christmas jumper is covered in snowflakes, sprinkled with sequins or simply your favourite cosy knit, it’s a brilliant excuse to embrace your love of woollies and add a little extra colour to the festive season.
What is Christmas Jumper Day?
Christmas Jumper Day is one of Save the Children’s biggest annual fundraising events and has been running since 2012. Each December, people across the country are encouraged to put on their favourite Christmas jumper and donate what they can to support children in the UK and around the world.
Since it began, the event has raised more than £42 million, helping Save the Children work to keep children safe, healthy and learning. And, of course, for knitters, it’s a particularly good excuse to celebrate the humble Christmas jumper!
Famous faces get festive
Christmas Jumper Day has plenty of celebrity support this year, with actress Suranne Jones among the famous faces getting involved. Suranne has previously shared how Christmas Jumper Day has become a fun tradition on filming days, with crews getting together for festive jumper competitions. She’s also a fan of finding Christmas jumpers in charity shops – a lovely reminder that your festive knit doesn’t have to be brand new to make an impact.
Singer Claire Richards is also supporting the campaign: “Christmas Jumper Day means so much – by simply wearing a festive jumper and donating what you can, you’ll be helping children both here and further afield.”
Knit a Christmas jumper with Let’s Knit
Want to make your own festive jumper this year? We’ve got you covered! There’s something extra special about wearing a Christmas jumper you’ve knitted yourself, and our collection has plenty of inspiration for your next festive cast-on.
Christmas jumpers for all the family
The festive sweater is always in fashion and we’ve got some brilliant designs to get you in the holiday mood. With two adult styles and one for children aged three to 12, you can knit one for everyone in the family. The adult Fair Isle charts are interchangeable and you can choose from a crew or polo neck design.
There are also four intarsia options for the little ones: a reindeer, snowman, Santa and penguin. Imagine the Christmas Day photos! Click the image to access the pattern.
Frosty knits for the kids
Little children will love Susie Johns’ Christmas jumper featuring a snowman motif – with a matching version for their favourite teddy bear! Picture knits don’t have to be fiddly or time-consuming: try knitting the larger colour blocks from the chart as you go along then embroider the smaller details at the making-up stage using Swiss darning. Classics for all winter
If you’re looking for a design you can rock on every day in December, not just Christmas Jumper Day, take a look at our snowflake design. This festive red-and-white number is knitted using using stranded colourwork techniques across the yoke to create a Nordic inspired knit. The white snowflake yarn contains a hint of mohair, making the pattern area light and fluffy.
Alternatively, go for a Fair Isle pattern. Worked in a luxurious merino wool and featuring a striking Fair Isle motif, the design on the left promises to elevate your classic Christmas knit to the level of cosy couture. This pattern has been written with eight different sizes, so be sure to highlight the instruction that applies to you before picking up your needles to save confusion.
