Settle down for hours of National Knitting fun!
For those of you who haven’t yet heard, Netflix has just announced a new partnership with Norwegian station Slow TV, which specialises in real-time television specials. A whole range of past programmes will be available for our viewing pleasure, including train journeys, salmon fishing, firewood. In 2013 Slow TV had a National Knitting broadcast that featured 12 straight hours of knitty goodness, and from the 5th August it’s available on Netflix here in the UK! Here are five reasons why we can barely contain our excitement!
1) There’s a world record attempt!

The team have a go at breaking the record for the fastest knitted garment from sheep to sweater. There’s even a very cute sheep called Guri. At the time of broadcasting the record stood at 4 hours, 51 minutes and 14 seconds – tune in to see if they made it (literally!).
2) It’s really interesting

No, really, it is. You’ll hear crafters and experts talk about fibres and techniques, as well as learning a bit about the historical side of Norwegian knitting. It’s fascinating stuff for keen knitters and spinners.
3) See a Harley Davidson get a knitty makeover

There’s something wonderfully eccentric about unusual objects covered in knitting. You may need to see this one to believe it!
4) There’ll be some fab garments on show

Spotting beautiful knitwear is one of our favourite games here at LK and as Nordic knits often involve gorgeous stranded colourwork patterns, there’s bound to be plenty on display!
5) It’ll inspire you to to pick up your pins
Seeing what other people can knit can often encourage you to fish out those UFOs (that’s unfinished objects, by the way) or raid your yarn and pattern stash for something new to start. If you’re watching for the long haul, why not see how much of a project you can complete in the same time frame? You can get loads of free patterns on our site. Click here to browse them all!
