There’s more to this northern county than delicious tea and cute little dogs – we show you why we are great fans!
West Yorkshire Spinners
We couldn’t have a blog like this without mentioning one of our favourite yarn brands! Based in West Yorkshire, the original home of the British Worsted Spinning industry, West Yorkshire Spinners was formed in 1997 and originated in Oxenhope, but in 2011 after increased demand, the team moved to their current home at Unit 2, Airedale Park Keighley. We’ve had some great patterns that are knitted in West Yorkshire Spinners yarns and they’re available in a range of shades and fibres to fit every project. For more information and to check out their yarn selection, visit www.wyspinners.com
Sheep Shearing
Where better to visit our favourite animals than the main home of all things knitted? With acres of farmland, Yorkshire is a great place to go to have a hands-on experience of interacting with and seeing how your wool goes from the sheep’s fleece to your knitting needles! You can find out more about this at www.britishwool.org.uk
Baa Ram Ewe and 5 years of Titus Yarn!
Baa Ram Ewe is another brand that have been born and bred in Yorkshire and this years Yorkshire Day marks five years since they released their first yarn, Titus. To celebrate they’ll be offering new offers each day for the whole week from 1st August and on Thursday 3rd August they’ll be holding a special anniversary knit night showcasing celebratory knits. Tickets will be available soon! For more information, visit www.baaramewe.co.uk
Amazing Yarn Shops!
We couldn’t possibly mention them all but there is a huge number of delightful yarn shops to visit in Yorkshire to purchase bundles of yarn, accessories as well as to sit and have a good brew and natter about all things knit-worthy! A few of the amazing shops based in Yorkshire include Wool ‘n’ Stuff Ltd, Purl & Jane, The Yorkshire Makery, Knitting Pretty and Bobbins and Lace.
Baa Baa Brighouse
Although originally launched as an online yarn shop specialising in Yorkshire yarns, Baa Baa Brighouse has recently opened a bricks and mortar shop in the living room of owner, Elaine Jinks-Turner’s 17th century cottage in Brighouse after a Kickstarter campaign was launched to raise funds. As a champion of small yarn producers, Baa Baa Brighouse also runs a monthly subscription club showcasing the best that Yorkshire indie yarn dyers have to offer. Betty’s Cafe Tea Rooms
Although not directly knitting related, we all love to sit and enjoy a few cups of tea and slices of cake whilst we get the knitting gossip out the way and work on our WIPs. There is no better destination than Betty’s Tea Rooms and particularly the famous Harrogate, Yorkshire branch. Opening in 1919, it was an instant success and is still hugely popular almost 100 years on! To find out more, visit their website.
