Get off to a flying start with our quick and easy knitters’ guide
It may seem strange, but some yarns are indeed easier to knit with than others. If you're new to knitting, we recommend starting with a simple-spun yarn in a nice, bright colour so you can see all your stitches and your needles don't slip through the middle of the yarn. Try Wool And The Gang's Crazy Sexy wool, or this Simply Chunky yarn from Paintbox Yarns
Coming in all different shapes, sizes, lengths and thicknesses, knitting needles are usually made from wood, plastic or aluminium. To a certain extent, you'll need to experiment a bit to find out which work best for you, but if you're a beginner it's usually best to stick with a pair in wood or bamboo to prevent your stitches from sliding. A medium-sized set like these straight, single point needles from DROPS will work nicely with a medium-weight wool.
There is such a wealth of knitting patterns available nowadays that it can be difficult to know which to try first. Luckily, help is at hand and we've sourced some great beginner makes that are simple, pretty and absolutely free! Why not try our easy chunky jumper, or a pretty bobble hat?
Let's face it – sometimes, when we're knitting we can all get stuck at some point. Whether you're hoping to learn a new stitch, embellish your makes or you're simply wondering how to cast on and off, we have all the help you'll need right here.
