Charity we love: Save the Children

Charity we love: Save the Children

This Christmas Jumper Day is the perfect opportunity to show off your knitting while raising some money for a brilliant charity!

Taking place on Friday 12 December 2014, Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day is a celebration of our favourite fashion statement: festive sweaters.

Whether you decide to go for the stylish scandi knit look, or you go all out and rock a cheeky winking Santa jumper, it’s all about having fun and looking fab. Even a plain stocking stitch affair can be tinselled up to create a Christmas masterpiece!

This year, Save the Children is asking people to get crafty however they can. A spokesperson for Christmas Jumper Day said: “Alongside the campaign, we want as many of you as possible to get creative with us this Christmas Jumper Day in whatever way you like: bake, knit or craft to make your own jumper-themed creation! Keep an eye out on our website for more details and free patterns to download.”

Once you’ve made your sweater, get your family, friends and colleagues to wear their jumpers and donate £1-£2 on 12 December, and make sure you sign up at www.christmasjumperday.org to receive your free fundraising pack! The government has agreed to match this year’s donations pound-for-pound, so it’s the perfect excuse to get more people involved than ever before! All money raised will go towards helping vulnerable children around the world.

Here at Let’s Knit, we want to see your handknitted Christmas jumpers, so send your pics to our Facebook or Twitter accounts, and we will add them to our Christmas jumper competition on Facebook - you could even win a prize!

And if you’re looking for Christmas jumper knitting patterns, make sure you pick up a copy of the Christmas Special issue of Let’s Knit! Susie Johns has designed sweaters for all the family in Christmas Crackers, the bonus book with this issue. If you start now, you might just be finished in time for the big day!
