Charity of the month: SPANA
Get involved with our March charity of the month, SPANA, by taking up your needles for their Big Knit for Vet Kit campaign and help raise money to provide vital veterinary treatments for working animals in need.
It is estimated that there are around 200 million working animals around the world, many of which do the jobs of modern farm machinery in impoverished, developing countries. SPANA (the Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad), aims to raise funds to provide free veterinary treatments for hard working horses, donkeys, mules and camels in their Africa and Middle East clinics.
Supported by none other than glamorous knitting enthusiast and model, Twiggy, the campaign calls on knitters to pick up their needles and make a donation or gain sponsorship of around £20 to make Duncan the donkey, Hattie the horse or crochet Clarence the camel. Or try your hand at the newest addition - Oscar the ox! Oscar and his friends have all been designed by Let’s Knit! friend and designer extraordinare Val Pierce.
