Let’s Knit review: Blacker Yarns

Let’s Knit review: Blacker Yarns

When a bundle of brand new Blacker yarns landed on the LK desk, we just couldn’t wait to get our mitts on it to see what woollen wonderfulness they had bestowed upon their latest creations…

Blacker Yarns are well known for their high quality natural fibres, and have a reputation for producing fabulous yarns. That being said, the Let’s Knit team were completely overjoyed to be chosen as the first people outside of Blacker mill to see the new additions.

The very first thing to catch our eye was the brand new range: Blacker Breeds Pure English Merino. It comes in two types: natural and over-dyed, and is available in both DK and aran weights. Upon handling the yarn, the first thing that springs to mind is ‘winter knits’, which is likely due to the warm colours and the smooth feel. It would knit the most fabulously cosy Christmas jumper!

Pure English Merino is, like it says on the tin, pure merino wool. It comes in four sumptuous shades: Fawn, Grey, Slate, and Olive - we are rather taken with the quirkiness and the rarity of the Olive shade.

When we could eventually tear ourselves away from the beauty that was the Pure English Merino, we ventured to discover the delights of the Blacker Swan over-dyed DK in a bundle of pastel shades. It’s 100% merino wool, and is every bit as luxurious as it sounds. It is extremely soft to handle – it’s delicate, lightweight, and gives great stitch definition which for a pure woollen yarn is something of a rarity.

The over-dyed DK is already a thriving range, but the four new shades; White Grass, Sea Foam, Pale Lavender, and Summer Sea are expected to be hugely popular. With vintage style being top of the trends right now, Blacker couldn’t have released these new additions at a better time. They are appealing to knitters of all ages, and even encourage younger generations to knit with their delicious colours and overall versatility. We think these brand new shades will make fantastic accessories for year-round use.
