Hector the snail (booklet) (page 7)

There is a mistake with the snail. You should cast-on five sts for the Body.
However, if you have already started work as follows to make a larger snail:

Row 23: (kfb) in each st to end. 40 sts
Beg with a p row, work seven rows in st st
Next row: (k2tog) to end. 20 sts
Next row: (p2tog) to end. Ten sts

To keep the shell in proportion, work as follows:
Using 3.5mm straight needles and yarn E, cast on 11 sts
[] Row 1: (kfb) in each st to end. 22 sts
[] Row 2: p
[] Row 3: (k1, kfb) to end. 33 sts
[] Row 4: p
[] Row 5: (k2, kfb) to end. 44 sts
[] Beg with a p row, work seven rows in st st
[] Next row: (k2, k2tog) to end. 33 sts
[] Next row: p
[] Next row: (k1, k2tog) to end. 22 sts
[] Next row: p
[] Next row: (k2tog) to end. 11 sts
[] Cut yarn leaving a tail, thread through rem sts, pull tight and fasten off
