Abi Flynn-Jones' cute children's knitting pattern uses knitted applique motifs and fits ages 0-2 years

Our two beach-themed raglan cardigans by Abi Flynn-Jones are made of a cotton/acrylic blend that will keep the wearer cool yet cosy this summer. The fun beach motifs are knitted separately and sewn on afterwards so there is no complicated colourwork and the look is completed with striped cuffs and hem and gorgeous wooden buttons. These beginner-friendly knitting patterns are ideal for new knitters looking to try their first knitted garment.

Age (months): 0-6 (6-9, 9-12, 12-18, 18-24)
To fit chest (cm): 44 (46, 48, 50, 52)
Actual chest (cm): 50 (54, 56, 58, 62)

What You'll Need

Yarn:
Ice-cream motif cardigan - DK, (A) shade Lime, 2 (2, 3, 3, 4) 50g balls, (B) shade Cream, (C) shade Pink, one 50g ball of each;
Starfish motif cardigan - DK, (A) shade Blue, 2 (2, 3, 3, 4) 50g balls, (B) shade Golden Yellow, one 50g ball
Needles: 4mm
Buttons: four for each cardigan, wooden, 21mm

Yarn substitution

The original yarn had a high meterage of 158m per 50g ball, so you may need an extra ball of yarn. Multiply the number of balls for your size by 158 to work out the meterage you will need, then divide this figure by the meterage of your intended yarn to see if you have enough.
