Use simple crochet stitches and pure wool to create Susie Johns' practical place mats, coasters and napkin rings
Felting is the name of the technique that involves deliberately shrinking your project. You'll need a pure wool yarn that is handwash only, then you'll make your project larger than the finished item will be. Pop it in the washing machine with towels or a pair of old jeans to create agitation and use a hot setting. The motion and heat will cause the fibres to matt together and shrink into a dense, hardwearing fabric that's ideal for homewares.
