It’s an emotional journey.
You’ve probably all heard of Shakespeare’s ‘Seven Ages of Man’, but did you know that knitting has seven phases too? It’s true. And it’s just as much of an emotional journey.
Stage 1: Temptation
Ooh, what’s that you’ve got there? Knitting, eh? How interesting!
Stage 2: Enthusiasm
Yes, I’d love to try it. I’m buying all the things, right now!
Stage 3: Excitement
I’m doing it. Look, I’m actually doing it. Hey, you there – I’M DOING IT!
Stage 4: Denial
It’ll be fine. That hole’s supposed to be there. Honest!
Stage 5: Despair
IT’S ALL GONE WRONG!
Stage 5 and a bit: Anger
Who’s idea was this? This is a stupid hobby.
Stage 5 and a bit more: Hope
Clearly, it’s ruined. It’s no good, I’m binning it. I’m never doing it again! What do you mean, it can be fixed?
Stage 6: Relief
I’m back on track. Why did I doubt myself, this is great!
Stage 7: Achievement
I did it! Look, I actually did it. Hey, you there – I DID IT!
