How To Knit: Knit Stitch and Purl Stitch

The most common knitting instruction you will come across are knit (k) and purl (p).

Knit Stitch

Knit stitch is also known as garter stitch and is often the first one you’ll need to know once you’ve cast on. Let’s Knit editor, Sarah Neal shows you how:

Purl Stitch

This other basic stitch is often alternated with knit stitch in a method commonly called stocking stitch (st st)
