Britain’s most Northerly islands have wool woven deep into their history, as they have been farming, spinning and knitting with it for centuries. In the 1700s, stockings were made using pure Shetland wool to trade with the Dutch and English, building the islands a reputation for quality lace. In the early 1900s, the huge demand for fashionable Fair Isle sweaters meant that the industry continued to grow, and it is still going strong! The islands attract yarn enthusiasts from around the world, and the Shetland Wool Week festival is here to celebrate this rich history!
The festival takes place from 7-13th October next week. It will feature a huge range of guests, workshops and events, including:
