22 Reasons To Love 2022

22 Reasons To Love 2022

Happy New Year, knitters!

Get set for a brand new year of knitting goodness. Here’s why we are excited about the next 12 months…

It’s not 2021…

Let’s face it, last year didn’t go to plan but now it’s time to look forward to a fresh new year. The pandemic is far from over but measures are in place to help us look to the future and we’re feeling optimistic.

...or 2020, come to that

Yep, that year wasn’t good either.

New Year’s Resolutions

We love to start each year with unachievable knitting goals like not buying any yarn until we’ve used up our stash or finishing all our UFOs. We know they won’t happen but it’s fun to pretend.

All the yarn

We don’t need an excuse to get excited about yarn. Come on, it’s yarn!

Winter warmers

There are still at least two more months of cold weather ahead of us this season which gives us the chance to show off our existing knitted hats, scarves, cowls, mittens, headbands, gloves, ear warmers, snoods, balaclavas and shawls. Phew!

Stuart Hillard’s Knitalong

Our pal Stuart Hillard has designed an exclusive blanket knitalong for Let’s Knit Together members and it launches on the 12th January. If you’re not already a member of our online knitting club, you can find out more at letsknit.co.uk/together. T&Cs apply

Join the club

Actually, Let’s Knit Together is a reason in itself to be excited for the new year. Members get access to over 2,300 patterns, exclusive video content, online events and special offers, as well as the chance to join our buzzing Facebook group.

Seasons of sport

It might surprise you, but sport and knitting go rather well together. From customised projects in your team’s favourite colours – which also make timeless gifts – to sweatbands and sports bags, there are plenty of related patterns to keep your needles busy. Televised sport also makes for ideal TV knitting and this year has plenty to offer, including the Winter Olympics, Rugby Six Nations, the Women’s football Euros in July and the men’s football World Cup starting in November.

Telly Time

If televised sport is a real turn off, you might prefer to knit through the new series of Call the Midwife or The Apprentice, both starting this month on BBC. Later this year, fantasy fans can look forward to brand new prequels of Game of Thrones and The Hobbit, or there’s also the latest seasons of The Crown and His Dark Materials. Which will you watch?

Mindful Moments

This year sees the launch of a new campaign in Let’s Knit, 10 Mindful Minutes. We want to encourage you to spend ten minutes of every day knitting. It doesn’t matter what you make or what you’re working on, just lose yourself in the rhythm of the stitches, the movement of the needles and the feel of the yarn. Every issue will feature a dedicated pattern that’s perfect for a spot of mindful crafting.

April showers

We don’t care what the weatherman (or woman) says, if the weatherman (or woman) says it’s raining, you won’t hear us complaining. Let’s stay in and knit!

Show Business

Some of our favourite knitting events are back for 2022. Get out your diary or open up your calendar app, whichever you prefer, and start planning.*
*events are still subject to change so check with the organisers for updates

Lovely Jubbly Jubilee

This year marks Queen Elizabeth II’s 70th year on the throne. To celebrate, we’re all getting an extra Bank Holiday – another day off work to knit. Thanks, Your Majesty!

Go al fresco

There are few things more relaxing than knitting, but knitting in the great outdoors with the sun shining and the birds singing might just be one of them. So, grab your hat, sun screen and latest WIP and find a place to while away the hours.

Stash sort out

While non-knitters look forward to a spring clean, we prefer a seasonal stash sort out. It’s time to safely store away those super chunky yarns (except the ones planned for statement homewares) and fish out those lighter fibres.

TV Stars

We are so excited! Starting in our March issue, you’ll find knitting patterns for characters from CBeebies show Alphablocks and Numberblocks. These fun figures help little ones with their language, literacy and numeracy skills. Learn more at cbeebies.com

Step it up this summer

Keep knitting through the summer with our fantastic 30-Day Challenge. We’ll supply you with patterns, stitches, project inspiration and much more to help you unleash your creativity. You’re going to love it!

Let’s get crafting

Here at LK HQ, we’re not just about knitting. We’re also huge fans of other crafts like crochet (obviously), baking (every knitter needs snacks) and sewing. Later this year, you’ll be spotting a few creative projects that combine knitting and sewing to great effect. Keep your eyes peeled.

Autumn colours

When the hazy days of summer are over, it’s time to be inspired by Mother Nature’s finest colour display. Use a palette of mustard yellow, burnt orange, copper red and rich plum to celebrate the season.

Support the Shops

The last couple of years have been tough on all businesses, but especially bricks-and-mortar retailers, like yarn stores. However, there is still no better way to shop for your knitting supplies. Colours never truly replicate on screen and you really can’t squeeze an image to feel that wonderful softness - that would just be weird. So, pop to the shops instead, remembering face coverings and distancing as required.

Sweater weather

The tail-end of the year brings crisp frosty mornings and bracing winds. All the more reason to cosy up in gorgeous handknitted jumpers. With such a huge choice of styles and fits, there are patterns a-plenty to keep you knitting all season long.

Cast On For Christmas

Yes, we are the kind of people to mention the C word in January. Think chic decorations, novelty characters and a plethora of handmade gifts. Just 11 months to go – wahey!
