What you need to know

Download and knit Val Pierce's easy-to-follow shark knitting pattern today!

Have you ever seen a huggable hammerhead? You have now! Val Pierce has excelled herself with this underwater creature that will cause squeals of delight and many an imaginary adventure. Knitted mainly in stocking stitch with easy shaping, the main area to concentrate on is keeping the double knit row pattern for the ridged underbody correct, so tick off the rows as you work. At almost 50cm long, you will
need to stuff this toy from both ends, before closing and adding embroidered eyes.

What do I need?

Yarn: Cygnet DK, shades 501 Washed Denim, 256 Cream, one 100g ball of each, small amounts of Black DK and White DK
Needles: 3.75mm
Safety toy stuffing
Tapestry needle

Sizing

33cm wide at head x 46cm long

Top knit tips

Pin a label to each fin – or fin part – so you know which is which when it comes to making up.

You may wish certain fins to have a more raked appearance, so begin by neatly seaming long edges of each one with right sides together to create tall triangles; the decreased edges form the back seam of the non-tail fins. On the Front Side Fins this entails joining two mirrored sides, with right sides together. Lightly stuff the fin half full, then flatten slightly with the back seam on one side. Push the corner opposite the back seam up into the fin to meet it. This changes the profile of the edge that you will attach to the Body and helps contain the stuffing. Use the photograph as a guide.
