What you need to know

Val Pierce's easy cockatoo pattern is sure to be a hit with the kids.

This knitted critter is bursting with personality! He is really easy to knit, with a basic body piece and simple shapes for the details. He needs to be stuffed quite firmly but don't overstretch your stitches. The eyes are embroidered so he is safe for young children, but make sure all the pieces are very securely attached.

What do I need?

Yarn: Standard DK in white, one 100g ball, yellow, silver grey, black, small amounts
Needles: 4mm
Safety toy stuffing
Tapestry needle

Sizing

Height (including head feathers): 20.5cm
Beak to tail: 20.5cm

Top knit tip

Although the true cockatoo colours are white, yellow and grey, you could opt for a wild psychedelic look by using brightly coloured yarns from your stash. Why not make him in stripes, then add different coloured feathers on his head?
