What you need to know

Nicola Valiji's ice cream bunting project is designed with beginner knitters in mind.

This ice cream and lolly bunting looks good enough to eat! That’s why it would make the perfect addition to your home this summer. Even novice knitters will be able to join in the fun, as this pattern is both easy to follow and quick to make up. What’s more, once you’ve mastered the first ice cream and lolly, it’s just a matter of repeating the process using different coloured yarns.

What do I need?

Yarn: Deramores Studio DK, shades Pearl, Oatmeal, Citrine, Peony, Raspberry, Topaz, Merlot, Lime, one 100g ball of each
Needles: 3.5mm
Tapestry needle

Sizing

126cm long x 18cm high

Top knit tips

Pin icecreams and lollies to bunting string first before sewing in place to make sure they are evenly spaced.

You will find it much easier to make up your bunting if you label the separate pieces as you go. You could even try stuffing and sewing up the ice creams and lollies immediately after knitting them, as this will help to avoid any confusion. Just remember to tease out your stuffing beforehand, otherwise you could end up with unsightly lumps and bumps. You will also need to take care over the placement of your pieces, so be sure to practise your spacing before you attach the pieces to the string.
