What you need to know

Celebrate Día de Los Muertos with Susie Johns' vibrant jar, featuring a knitted sugar skull design and 3D floral decorations

Bring a touch of Mexican festival magic to your celebrations with this fun idea from Susie Johns. This project transforms an ordinary plastic jar into a colourful Day of the Dead display, complete with a knitted skull and a collection of 3D flowers. It’s a playful, decorative piece that’s perfect for holding treats, LED candles, or simply brightening up your home for the holidays. Plus, it’s a great way to reuse an old jar, giving new life to something you’d otherwise recycle. The main motif is worked using the Fair Isle technique but you could Swiss darn the finer details if you prefer.
