Hat

Using 10mm needles and yarn
A, cast on 40 (44) sts
❒ Rows 1-4: * k1tbl, p1, rep from * to end of row
❒ Rows 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 (17): k ❒ Rows 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 (18): p Decrease for top
❒ Row 1: * k8 (9), k2tog, rep from * to end of row. 36 (40) sts
❒ Row 2: p
❒ Row 3: * k7 (8), k2tog, rep from * to end of row. 32 (36) sts
❒ Row 4: * p2tog, p6 (7), rep from * to end of row. 28 (32) sts
❒ Row 5: * k5 (6), k2tog, rep from * to end of row. 24 (28) sts
❒ Row 6: * p2tog, p4 (5), rep from * to end of row. 20 (24) sts
❒ Row 7: * k3(4), k2tog, rep from * to end of row. 16 (20) sts
❒ Row 8: * p2tog, p2 (3), rep from * to end of row. 12 (16) sts

Flower

OUTER RING

Using 6mm needles and yarn B, cast on 46 sts
❒ Row 1: k
❒ Row 2: * k2 tog, rep from * to end. 23 sts
❒ Row 3: * p2tog rep from * to last st p1. 12 sts
❒ Row 4: work as Row 2. Six sts
❒ Row 5: p2tog, three times. Three sts
❒ Cut yarn leaving a long tail, thread tail through darning needle and pass yarn through each remaining stitch in turn, with RS facing join side seam, darn in all ends

INNER RING

Using 6mm needles and yarn C, cast on 24 sts
❒ Row 1: k
❒ Row 2: * k2tog, rep from * to end. 12sts
❒ Row 3: * p2tog, rep from * to end. Six sts
❒ Row 4: k2tog three times. Three sts
❒ Finish as for outer ring of flower
❒ Place the inner ring on top of the outer ring and sew in place, sew a button to centre of flower if desired, sew flower to side of hat

Scarf

Using 10mm needles, cast on eight sts
❒ Row 1: sl 1, (k1, p1) three times, k1
❒ Repeat Row 1 until piece measures 140cm
❒ Cast off

To make up

Darn in ends
❒ To make tassel, cut 16 40cm long strands of yarn in each colour, fold a strand in half and thread the looped end through the edge of the scarf (matching colours). Once you have the loop of the tassel through the fabric, thread the cut ends through the loop and pull tight to secure tassel to edge of scarf. Repeat so that you end up with eight tassels on each end. Use an invisible thread to sew the plait into position and secure ends

Knit Wise

The scarf is made from three strips of ribbed knitting. Knit one strip in each colour, then plait together to form the whole scarf. To keep them in place, sew them together with the invisible thread.
