Lyra and Pan
Crocheted in warm aran wool, Lyra and Pan are a perfect pair for winter days
This charming set in fabulous pink and plum shades is just the thing for keeping you snug this winter. Made by Helen Ardley, our matching hat and scarf uses a combination of double crochet and a more lacy treble pattern to great effect. As it is worked on a large hook and in aran yarn, the stitches are easy to see making it a good choice for beginners.

About the Yarn
Rowan Pure Wool Aran is a cosy yarn that really shows off this lovely natural fibre. It’s machine washable too so it’s highly practical – ideal for outdoor wear. Soft and smooth, it also doesn’t split, making it good for beginners to crochet. Choose from 16 shades including some gorgeous greens and blues.
Need an Alternative?
Rico Essentials Soft Merino Aran is another machine washable pure wool yarn that is available in similar colours. Try shades 015 Fuchsia and 018 Berry for a close match.

At certain stages in this project you are instructed to work through the back loop only. If you look at the top of your next stitch from above, you will see a row of little v-shapes. Usually you would insert the hook under both parts of the ‘v’. To work through the back loop only, insert your hook into the top of the ‘v’ and under the back bar then complete your stitch. This creates a slightly softer fabric than working through two loops. It is also more stretchy and gives a more textured finish.
