Made in a mix of different wool breeds, our Tess cushion cover by Sian Brown features a sweet Fair Isle heart motif and a striking chequerboard design at the top and bottom. It fits over a mediumsized cushion pad and is attached with buttons to allow for easy removal.

❑ NOTE: cushion is worked in one piece starting with Lower back
❑ Using 3.75mm needles and yarn A cast on 82 sts
❑ Row 1: * k1, p1, rep from * to end
❑ Row 2: * p1, k1, rep from * to end
❑ Rep last two rows three times more This forms moss st border Change to 4mm needles
❑ Beg with a k row work in st st until cover meas 30.5cm from cast on edge ending with RS facing for next row, place marker each end of last row
❑ NOTE: read Chart from right to left on RS rows and from left to right on WS rows. When working in patt weave yarn not in use loosely across WS of work to maintain fabric’s elasticity
❑ Work from Row 1 to 99 (inclusive) of Chart, place marker each end of last row
❑ With WS facing for next row and yarn A only beg with a p row and cont in st st until cover meas 7.5cm from last marker, ending with RS facing for next row Change to 3.75mm needles.
❑ Row 1 (buttonhole border): * k1, p1, rep from * to end
❑ Row 2: * p1, k1, rep from * to end
❑ These two rows form moss st patt
❑ Next row: moss st seven, yrn, work two sts tog, * moss st 15, yrn, work two sts tog, rep from * three times more, moss st five
❑ Next row: moss st as set in Row 2, working correct st into yrn. Five buttonholes made
❑ Work four more rows in moss st
❑ Cast off in patt
