To Make Up

Trim wadding so it is 5mm smaller all round than finished bag piece. Iron it centrally onto lining fabric following manufacturer’s instructions, then press surplus fabric at each edge to the back. Pin to WS of knitting, making sure that there is an equal amount of stitching visible along each edge. Slip stitch in place. Fold up bottom 10cm of bag with stripes running vertically. Pin sides, then slip stitch with tapestry needle and yarn A. Sew press studs in place on inside of flap and right side of bag, 5cm from the edges. Sew buttons to top of flap, so that they lie over top part of press studs

Knit Wise

KFB made simple

Row 3 of Sade’s repeating pattern calls for you to knit into the front and back of the stitch (kfb). To do this, go to knit the stitch on the left hand needle as usual but after drawing the yarn through as you would normally do to form a stitch, don’t pull the stitch off the left needle tip. Instead, insert your right needle tip into the back loop of the stitch you just knitted into and knit a second stitch. This time, pull the left stitch off the left needle.
