Ginevra
With cable and button detail Helen Ardley's Ginevra armwarmers are both striking and stylish
A toasty pair of fingerless mitts are just the ticket for keeping out the chills this October. Knitted on straight needles, they're ideal for those of you who find dpns tricky to manage and the thumb hole is created by leaving stitches on holders then working the sections separately. Made in chunky Rowan Cocoon, the armwarmers knit up quickly and are super soft with a slightly fuzzy finish, while the bright red shade is sure to get them noticed. The buttons are fastened using stitches so there's no need to worry about making lots of buttonholes, and combined with the cable patterns, the completed look is one of vibrant colour and interesting texture.
Yarn: Rowan Cocoon, shade 818 Quarry Tile, three 50g balls

Oh so simple
This pattern is made on straight needles so is ideal for those of you who don’t like working in the round. It doesn’t even require you to make buttonholes as the buttons are fastened using the stitches opposite.
