Finish off your Christmas preparations with this adorable little tree-topper
Decorating the tree is often a family event, with heirloom decorations and precious ornaments being brought out of storage for their time to shine.
Yarn: Rowan Kidsilk Haze, (A) shade 634 White, (C) shade 606 Dark Pink, one 25g ball of each; (B) Rowan 4 ply Soft, shade 395 Pink, one 50g ball; (D) Rowan Shimmer, shade 92 Silver, one 25g ball. Oddments of yellow yarn for hair: Rowan Extra Fine Merino DK, shade 898 Yellow
DMC Desire Memory thread; Silver (6120) one 5m spool Stranded Cotton Embroidery thread; black, white, pale pink and dark pink
Needles: 3mm
Crochet Hook: 3mm

Body and head
Using yarn A cast on 31 sts
❑ Beg with a k row, work ten rows in st st ending with a WS row
❑ Change to yarn B
❑ Next row (inc): (k7, inc in next st) three times, k7(34 sts)
❑ Beg with a p row, work 11 rows in st st ending with a WS row
SHAPE SHOULDERS
❑ Next row: k8, skpo, k14, k2tog, k8 (32 sts)
❑ P one row
❑ Next row: k8, skpo, k12, k2tog, k8 (30 sts)
❑ P one row
❑ Next row: k1, (k2tog) to last st, k1 (16 sts)
❑ Beg with a p row, work three rows in st st
SHAPE HEAD
❑ Next row: k1, (k1, m1) to last st, k1 (30 sts)

Legs (make two)
With 3mm needles and yarn B, cast on 16 sts

SHOES
❑ Next row: k7, k2tog, k7 (15 sts)
❑ Beg with a p row, work three rows in st st
❑ Next row: k1, (k2tog) to end (eight sts)
❑ P one row
❑ Next row: (k2tog) to end (four sts)
❑ Break yarn, thread through rem sts and pull up tightly
Arms
With 3mm needles and yarn B, cast on four sts
❑ K one row
❑ P one row
❑ Next row: k1, m1, k to last st, m1, k1
❑ P one row
❑ Rep the last two rows, three times more (12 sts)
❑ Beg with a k row, work 18 rows in st st, ending with a WS row
❑ Next row: (k2tog) to end (six sts)
❑ P one row
❑ Break yarn leaving a long length for making up, thread through rem sts and draw up tightly
To Make Up
Sew the centre back seam of body and head using mattress stitch. Stuff head firmly. Sew a draw thread of yarn B around neck at decreases. Draw up tightly and fasten off. Stuff remainder of body. Sew centre back seam of each leg using mattress stitch. Stuff legs firmly and then sew the top edges of each leg to the bottom edge of body, pulling body edges together between legs. Sew underarm seams using mattress stitch. Stuff firmly and then sew shaped top sections to each side of body over shoulder shapings.
Dress (make two)
Using yarn C, cast on 28 sts
❑ Beg with a k row, work 32 rows in st st, dec one st at each end of the third and every foll fourth row (12 sts)
❑ Cast off
Join one side seam of dress, stopping approx 3cm short of the top edge. Open out flat.
DRESS HEM
With a 3mm crochet hook and yarn D, work 55 dc evenly into the cast on edge of the dress
❑ Work 1 ss into 1st dc, (miss 2 dc, 5 tr into next dc, miss 2 dc, 1 ss into next dc) to end
❑ Fasten off
Join other side seam of dress, stopping approx 3cm short of top edge as before. Slip dress onto doll and sew front to back of dress over each shoulder.
Wings (make two)
With 3mm needles and using yarn A and yarn D together throughout, cast on 12 sts
Work in moss st throughout as follows:
❑ Next row: (k1, p1) to end
❑ Next row: (p1, k1) to end
❑ Inc one st at each end of next and every foll alt row until 22 sts, incorporating the incs into patt as set
❑ Work three rows in moss st
❑ Next row: (RS) patt 2tog, patt four, patt 2tog, turn
❑ Next row: Patt 2tog, patt two, patt 2tog (four sts)
❑ Cast off in moss st
❑ With RS facing, rejoin yarn to rem 14 sts and work two rows in moss st
❑ Then dec one st at each end of next and every foll alt row to eight sts
❑ Work one row
❑ Cast off in moss st
To Make Up
Sew in all ends. Sew cast on edges of wings together. Then oversew Desire Memory thread all around the outside edge of the wings. Sew the centre seam of the wings to the centre back of dress and doll through all layers. Make a loop of twisted Memory thread and sew the ends of this to the top of the wings at the back.
HAIR
Take several lengths of yellow yarn meas approx 26cm long. Lay over head and sew to head at the centre point, starting at forehead and working towards the back. Take a few of the strands at the front and twist them together. Wrap these around the head and tie them together at the back of the head to secure.
Make a halo from a ring of twisted Memory thread attached to another ring of thread and catch this to the sides of the doll’s head and hair.
FEATURES
Sew eyes using black embroidery thread and satin stitch. Sew a small white highlight in each eye. Sew a nose using pale pink thread and stem stitch. Then sew a mouth using dark pink thread and stem stitch.
