Slip stitch colourwork - the principles

Our Faye buttoned purse, made using our FREE yarn, features a tweed-like pattern. We have used this as an example of how to work slip stitch patterns. This design is worked over a multiple of four sts + five. Unless instructed otherwise you should slip the stitches purlwise.

Step 1Step 1: on Row 1, using yarn B, k1, p1, now take the yarn back between the needles (yb)

Step 2Step 2: insert your RH needle into the next st as if to purl and transfer the st from the LH to RH needle

Step 3Step 3: now bring the yarn back between the needle tips to the front of the work (yfwd)

Step 4Step 4: Continue with the pattern as instructed. See how the slipped stitches are left unworked and create a multicoloured effect on the row. This is how it looks during Row 3 of the pattern repeat
