What you need to know

Knit our trio of classic teddies

There's nothing like a timeless teddy and Louise Watling's designs are true classics. The contrasting foot pads, moveable arms and legs, and sweet outfits make them charming toys for little ones and collectors. You can make both Mummy and Daddy bear from your free yarn. We've also added a bonus pattern for Baby bear, for which you can use similar DK yarn from your stash or visit http://www.craftstoreuk.com/buy/the-teddy-bears-picnic-yarn-kit-150g/ to buy another yarn kit.

Top Knit Tips

“If you can't crochet, you can always make a plait or twisted cord to make the Baby bear's bow.” LK Deputy Editor Adrienne Chandler

When shaping the feet, you will have two sets of stitches on your needle, each separated by a gap where you have cast-off. On the following row, knit across the first set of stitches, then pass over the gap and insert your right needle into the first stitch on the second set of stitches. Knit this stitch, giving the yarn an extra tug to avoid having a loose stitch. Your two sets of stitches are now joined and you can complete the row. The cast-off edge will become the top of the foot and you will sew this closed later.
