  • Bag front/back panel (make two)

    Using 4mm needles cast on 68 sts
    Row 1 (RS): k
    Row 2: k
    Row 3: k1, (k wrapping yarn twice around needle) to last st, k1
    Row 4: k1, * sl next three sts to RH needle dropping extra loops, return these three sts to LH needle, (k1, p1, k1) working into all three loops tog (see Knitwise) rep from * to last st, k1
    These four rows form patt
    Cont in patt until work meas 22cm ending after Row 2
    Cast off

  • Sides (make two)

    Using 4mm needles cast on 29 sts
    Work in patt as for Front until work meas 22cm ending after Row 2
    Cast off

  • Handles (make two)

    Using 3.25mm needles cast on ten sts
    Row 1: k
    Row 2: k3, p4, k3
    These two rows form patt
    Cont in patt until Handle meas 124cm
    Cast off

  • Base

    Using 4mm needles cast on 29 sts
    Beg with a k row work in st st until Base meas length of Front/Back panel
    Cast off

  • To make up

    Weave in all loose ends. Cut two pieces of fabric 33cm x 12cm and sew to top of both back and front. Cut two pieces of fabric 14cm x 12cm and sew to top of sides. If using interfacing, cut pieces 1cm smaller than the two sides, front, back and base pieces. Sew interfacing together to make a bag shape. Put to one side. Assemble bag by sewing two side panels and Front and Back together. Do not sew on Base. Cut two pieces of fabric 35cm x 33cm for Front and back lining, two pieces of fabric 14cm x 35cm for side linings, and one piece of fabric 33cm x 14cm for base lining. Sew lining fabric together using a sewing machine to make a bag shape. Place lining inside knitted bag. Turn down fabric at top of both bag and lining by 1cm and tuck inside to give a neat edge. Stitch top of bag to hide edges. Insert interfacing between knitted bag and lining. Attach knitted base to finish. Attach handles. Sew button to centre of fabric band on Front. Make twisted cord from yarn and attach in a loop to top of centre Back to form closure
