Once you have made the required number of table mats, coasters and napkin rings, you can felt them. To do this, place them in the washing machine with a couple of old towels. Add detergent but no fabric conditioner and set the machine to a 60° cycle with the shortest possible spin. Once you have removed the felted items from the machine, pull them gently into shape while still damp and lay them out flat to dry. Do not tumble dry.
