Join the Great Sense Pompom challenge!

Need a quick and easy way to use up your stash? Love helping others? Deafblind charity Sense are asking yarn lovers to start making pompoms as part of a national campaign that promises to be heaps of fun!

For many of us, making a pompom was one of our first introductions to yarn crafts – and it’s a skill that is held dear to many knitters’ hearts. After all, we all know how much better a knitted hat looks with a big matching pompom stitched on top!

The Great Sense Pompom challenge is a fun and easy way to help us reconnect to our sense of touch by making and sharing pompoms of any size, material or colour.
Once you’ve made your pompoms, be sure to send them in to the charity, who are aiming to weave them into a massive tapestry that will travel across the UK. Find out which branch to send them to here.

Richard Kramer, Sense Deputy CEO, said: “People with both sight and hearing difficulties often use other senses, such as touch, to connect with the world around them. By making a pompom, people can tune in to their own sense of touch and connect with the 250,000 deafblind people in the UK.”

You can share the fun by sending in pictures of your pompoms to Sense via their website, Twitter and Facebook. Or why not set yourself pompom making challenges? Where is the most bizarre place you could make a pompom? How many can you make in half an hour? Who in your household can make the most in the shortest amount of time?

Celebrities endorsing the campaign currently include artist Stella Vine, fashion design and artist Alex Noble, and stylist and costume designer Katie Greengrass.
The campaign will take place between November 18th - December 2nd, so gather your stash, and get making!
