Whilst there are often plenty of pattern options for women's hats and scarves, men's patterns are sometimes overlooked. This month's single coloured cable-knit hat and scarf are neutral but far from plain, with rows of circular cable stitching adding a subtle, decorative touch.

Needles: 4.5mm, 5mm

Roger

Using 4.5mm needles cast on 98 sts
Rib row 1: k2, *p2, k2, rep from * to end
Rib row 2: p2, *k2, p2 rep from * to end
Rep last two rows three more times and first row again
Inc row: rib 6, (m1, k2, m1, rib 10) seven times, m1, k2, m1, rib 6. 114 sts
Row 1: using 5mm needles, p4, *k8, p6, rep from * to last 12 sts, k8, p4
Row 2: k4, * p8, k6, rep from * to last 12 sts, p8, k4
Row 3: p4, *C4B, C4F, p6, rep from * to last 12 sts, C4B, C4F, p4
Row 4: as Row 2  
Row 5-6: as Row 1 - 2
