Fair Isle bedsocks
Use Fair Isle colourwork in Cheryl Murphy's cosy bedsocks
These cosy bedsocks are worked flat on straight needles and use the stranded colourwork technique, more commonly known as Fair Isle. This is a great project for beginners as it is easy to see the motifs taking shape and there are no intimidating charts. Stranded colourwork creates a double-thickness fabric which makes these socks extra cosy!

Chartless colourwork
Unlike most stranded knitting patterns, these instructions are written in full rather than using a chart. The letters following each k or p stitch, tell you which colour you should be using. Beginners will find this less daunting but it can be tricky to keep your place on the row. Use a pencil to underline each stitch as you work. Don’t cross them out completely as some rows need to be repeated.
