Crochet flower scarf
Put your crochet skills to the test with this scarf designed by Lucinda Ganderton
Crocheting flowers is one of the best ways to practise tension and the various stitches in crochet and is when most people start to get hooked (pardon the pun!) on this craft. The wonderful shades in this project give a feminine feel and suit all age groups. Make a smaller version for a little girl or add more flowers for an elegant evening shawl.
Yarn: Sirdar Flirt DK, (A) shade 221 Champers, (B) shade 223 Burnished Bronze, (C) shade 225 Hypnotic, (D) shade 218 Obsession, (E) shade 219 Smoulder
Pink, one 50g ball
Hook:4mm
Large tapestry needle
First flower
❑ Rnd 1: Using first colour, wrap yarn six times round the tip of your finger and slide off the resulting loop. Bring the yarn through the loop from back to front and make a slip stitch to secure. 1ch, 12dc into loop, sl st to first dc.
❑ Rnd 2: 4ch, (miss 1dc, 1htr in next dc, 2ch) five times, sl st to second ch, fasten off
Petals
❑ Rnd 3: Join on second colour to RH edge of any 2ch sp, (1ch, 1htr, 1tr, 1dtr, 1ch, 1dtr, 1tr, 1htr) in 2ch sp, *(1ch, 1htr, 1tr, 1dtr, 1ch, 1dtr, 1tr, 1htr) in next 2ch sp; rep from * four times, sl st at base of first petal, fasten off. Darn in the ends
ADD SECOND FLOWER
Using two different yarns, work as for first flower until the centre ch of the sixth petal. Take the hook from the loop, then draw the loop up through the ch sp in the first flower. Finish the petal and darn in the ends.
ADD THIRD FLOWER
Make as first flower, to the centre ch of the fifth petal. Join to the fifth petal of the second flower, then carry on to the centre ch of the sixth petal. Join to the first petal of the first flower and complete.
❑ Cont adding flowers until you have the desired length (37 flowers make a scarf that is approx 125cm long and 12cm wide)
